School of the Hunt is an online educational platform for hunters.

From September 2020 to June 2021, I travelled to Alberta to assist in the creation of Waterfowl 101, the first course on schoolofthehunt.com. I filmed and edited the contents of Waterfowl 101, a 9-part video-based digital course. In addition to the course, I created ad material, interactive guides, and website elements. This line of work provided me with experience in large scale video production, expertise in professional data management, brand development, an introduction to pay for performance advertising, and experience working in a start-up.

ONLINE VIDEO

PRODUCTION

This project provided me with the largest volume of time behind the film camera thus far in my career. The goal was to create an online course dedicated to teaching Waterfowl hunting and conservation at a beginner level. At nearly 3 hours of runtime and with only a few days of pre-production before filming started, this would be the largest and most challenging video project I had ever taken on. I filmed a waterfowl hunting season, built sets on a small budget, provided the large majority of video and audio equipment, prepared and operated professional video and audio capture workflows, and edited all the contents of Waterfowl 101 myself.

Below are a some samples of my work.

THE WATERFOWL

PLAYBOOK

In addition to a video course, I worked remotely with an illustrator to create an interactive guide in support of the course.

The goal was to create a tool that hunters could take into the field with them and use as a reference when making strategic decisions. The operation had to be simple, touch-based, and function without an internet connection.

The resulting tool was an interactive PDF that asked a series of questions, then intelligently offered a hunter a set of suggestions for appropriate strategies.

PHOTOGRAPHY

A portion of my time was also set aside to create photographic content for web elements, social media, and advertisements. While this was a small portion of my work, I am still very proud of the images that came from this project.
